According to the regulations of the Vietnam Government, UK citizens who is wishing to enter Vietnam for their leisure or business purposes are obliged to apply for a Vietnam visa. A visa can be obtained by applying at the Vietnam Embassy in UK or applying online (to get a visa on arrival). There are some special notices of business visa application that the UK applicants should follow:
- A valid passport: A passport validity of 6 months at least is must. It is not a temporary passport or misrepresentation case.
- A sponsorship letter by a licensed Vietnamese company or organisation if a visa is applied at the Vietnam Embassy in UK. It’s not required if a visa is applied online.
- A stamping fee: there is a dramatically change in business visa stamping fee regulated by the Vietnam Ministry of Finance since 1 Jan 2013 under the circular 190/2012/TT-BTC. Accordingly, the amount of 95 USD stamping fee (excludes processing fee) will be paid directly at the Immigration Counter at the airport or the Vietnam Embassy in the country for a visa stamp (instead of 50 USD as before).
- As well as a tourist visa, business visa on arrival can be used if the travellers access Vietnam by airplane only.
- In addition, the UK visitors must be not inadmissible under Vietnam Immigration’s policy due to the security, human or international rights violations, criminality, organized criminality, health grounds or misrepresentation reasons.

Recently, Vietnam Immigration policy has been improved with the open door policy of the country and visa for Vietnam has been changed accordingly. A business visa can be applied online to get a visa stamp at arrival airport which allows visitors to stay in Vietnam up to 3 months. It is quite preferable since its advantages of both far more convenient and economical than other way. An approval letter for business visa on arrival could be done within 2 working days (or in 2 hours for emergency business). A business visa can be extended easily latter if the visitors expect to stay longer.
